Learning karate is an excellent way for your teen or young person to get in shape and be prepared for life. The many benefits the classes would give to him or her will set them ahead of the rest in many ways. Children’s programs help them become more confident, stronger, and healthy.
Learn Karate
Of course, the first thing they will learn is karate. This martial art is centuries old and it offers an excellent way for young people to defend themselves. Our times today seems to require this ability more and more and they want to be ready if they should ever need to defend themselves.
An emphasis is given in class that karate is not something to use outside of class. It is only to be used in the class or in a situation where self-defense is absolutely necessary.
Health Benefits
Letting your teen take karate can help them to have better health. The path to good health starts with getting in shape and losing extra pounds. They also benefit from the many exercises required of them in class, and they become more flexible, coordinated, and stronger. By staying in shape, it will help them with asthma, and it will help prevent more serious problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Better in School
Taking martial arts classes will also help your child with their studies. They will quickly learn to listen to the instructor (and will want to) and this will help them to listen better in school and be more focused. The self-discipline they learn will help them study better and do those things they need to do without being told.
Other Benefits
Learning respect for others is another benefit gained from the instruction. They will also learn the value of honor and will gain self-confidence as they strive to master the various moves and techniques given in class.
The Classes
Classes will usually be about an hour in length for all ages. Students will wear a karate uniform (a “gi”) while in class. They will be instructed in the various techniques and forms (kata) and will perform some sparring to develop their speed and technique.
The Challenges
Belts are given as a level of achievement. Students complete the goals and requirements for each belt and get promoted. This helps them to strive harder and successfully reach those goals – giving them a sense of accomplishment and increased self-worth.
The Instructors
Each of the instructors is well-trained and certified. They care about the students in their program and help to ensure a safe environment while practicing. Students are given positive reinforcement throughout the classes, which helps them progress with confidence and at a faster rate.
