If you love music and want to lose weight, or get in shape, a Zumba fitness class may be just what you want. There are a number of different styles for this relatively new program of weight loss, but most of them combine dance and aerobics to help people exercise and get in shape.
What Is It?
Zumba is a fitness program that has become very popular all over the world. It has nine different programs (so far) and each one is designed for a particular group of people. This enables almost anyone to benefit from moving, burning calories, and getting better health.
One thing about this exercise program that many people love is that it often does not seem like exercise at all. Because of the lively, often Latin, music, many people actually have a lot of fun with it – like a party. This can sure help you to keep coming back for more – and staying in shape at the same time.
The Different Classes
The different classes focus on different people, or on a slightly different focus. Some classes, such as Zumba Gold is designed to work with beginners or seniors.
The Zumba Step program focuses on moving the lower body. It uses step aerobics combined with rhythms from Latin dance. There is even a class that is done in a swimming pool, called Aqua Zumba. This program uses basically the same movements, but they have been modified some for the water.
There is also a special class for the kids. This one is for those children who are between the ages of 7 and 11. Another class, called Zumba Sentao provides exercises while sitting in a chair. Then Strong by Zumba is for those who really want a powerful workout. It combines high intensity interval training with synced music.
The various classes are designed to help you lose weight and exercise. You can lose anywhere between 500 to 1,000 calories in an hour, depending on how hard you dance or move.
Besides dancing, having a good time, and burning lots of calories, there are also a number of other benefits you will obtain from the sessions. You will become more coordinated, and your balance becomes better. It also helps strengthen your cardiovascular system, and you build stamina. Becoming more self-confident and feeling better are more benefits.
For those who are interested, there is now an annual Zumba cruise. This cruise ship is filled with people who love to dance to the tunes of Zumba and have a good time. Many people who love the Zumba atmosphere consider it a party, not an exercise program.
